The 2017 Summer Season is nearly upon us. For some, the idea of vacation is more work than rest.  The process of putting together lists of items to purchase, pack and/or rent is enough to make a person want to stay home. For that reason, we are excited to offer a new service at Everything Beach, LLC. Sassy Howard with Inner Peace Massage Therapy will be adding Massage Therapy into the choices of Topsail Island Beach Services.  You will now have a chance to take some time and appreciate all the hard work it took to get to the beach.

Sassy has been practicing massage therapy for almost two years.  She is a graduate from Coastal Carolina Community College in Jacksonville, NC. (LMBT #15987)  “I have always wanted to be in the medical field to help people. This job is challenging because everyone is different but that is what makes the job so enjoyable. I am a firm believer in a holistic approach to healing. The human body is made up of the mind, body, and spirit. All three must be in working order, so that a free flow of energy is achieved. Through my practice, I work hard to release this energy and promote well-being.”

Swedish Massage (30 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes)  The most widely recognized and commonly used category of massage is the Swedish massage. The Swedish massage techniques vary from light to vigorous. Swedish massage uses five styles of strokes. The five basic strokes are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber or with the fibers) and vibration/shaking. Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness, and improving function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee over a period of eight weeks. Clinical studies report that Swedish Massage can effectively reduce low back pain and the effectiveness can last for as long as 15 weeks. One study reported that Swedish Massage caused reduction in salivary cortisol indicating its role in management of stress and improvement in mood.

Deep Tissue Massage (70 minutes)   Deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage, but the deeper pressure is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints). A study in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that people’s blood pressure fell after a single 45 to 60 minute deep tissue massage. Additionally, a 2010 meta-analysis in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry found that massage modalities like deep tissue reduce stress hormone levels and heart rate while boosting mood and relaxation by triggering the release of oxytocin and serotonin.
